‘ I want to add that another seemingly impossible dream is of a couple who want to restore their marriage. “Don’t Drink the Water” explores the foibles and limitations a man and his wife bring to the marriage. In each paragraph we somehow hope they will find a way back to each other. Just as they’re about to lean back in, something slips into the equation to alienate them further. Again, I find myself wanting to ponder the slippery edge you navigate – real life, the translucent imagination, the hope, the sordidness. It’s a terrific blend you effect in the collection, and always with regional colour that is so interesting and different to me. Love how your details transcend the specifics and lodge the characters and their time into a larger space of common experience.’
